Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital offers behavioral health treatment programs for adolescents. Our adolescent patients are between 12 and 17 years old, and they struggle with mental health and substance abuse issues. When an adolescent requires behavioral health treatment, parents should know that the difficulties their child faces are often not reflective of a parent’s failure or the fault of any particular individual. Adolescent mental health issues are more common than many people think, and families can get help from a range of mental health treatment programs for teens.

At our behavioral health facility for teens in Reno, Nevada, we customize treatment plans for each teen’s unique needs. Teenagers face many challenges as their bodies and minds develop, and Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital recognizes this reality. Below are some common mental health issues that a teen may encounter during adolescent development:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Depression
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Psychosis
  • Substance use and addiction to drugs and alcohol
  • Suicidal or homicidal thoughts

In some cases, teens suffer from substance abuse problems and other mental health conditions at the same time. Often, teens who suffer from co-occurring mental health problems have complex psychological and medical needs. We have experience helping teens with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health needs, and our clinical team provides a custom care plan for each teen patient.

Comprehensive care for teens who struggle with behavioral health

Our teen inpatient mental health programs and outpatient services for teens create a structured environment and encourage rapid recovery. Additionally, we strive to help our patients achieve lasting results through follow-up care programs, support groups, and ongoing therapy sessions. Our approach towards teen mental health treatment also focuses on:

  • Building skills for activities of daily living
  • Developing self-confidence and independence
  • Helping teens keep up with schoolwork and build study skills
  • Developing interpersonal skills
  • Building healthy family relationships
  • Solution-focused therapies
  • Trauma-informed care methods

At Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, we understand that each teen is unique and that each teen requires personalized care for their behavioral health challenges. Our adolescent inpatient programs allow teens to start their journeys towards improved mental health in a way that works for them and their families.

Trauma-informed care for adolescents

Our team recognizes that young people who struggle with behavioral health issues and substance abuse problems may have experienced significant trauma. They may be extremely vulnerable to retraumatization. Respecting those vulnerabilities, we follow trauma-informed care best practices. Trauma-informed care methods provide an environment that promotes safety, empowerment, and healing for teens undergoing treatment. With trauma-informed care and a supportive environment, teens can work to manage and overcome the ongoing effects of trauma.

Inpatient programs for teen behavioral health

During our teen inpatient programs, our treatment team provides 24-hour monitoring and stabilization care in a safe and secure setting. Our structured and comprehensive inpatient treatment programs for teens include:

  • Group therapy
  • Medication management
  • Recreation therapy
  • Socialization therapy
  • Expressive therapy

We also help patients develop plans for addressing their behavioral health needs after treatment. Our team aims to help each patient achieve lasting behavioral change, and part of achieving that goal is making sure that patients have the ongoing support they need. Discharge plans often include plans for ongoing outpatient treatment sessions. We also work with each teen’s family members to ensure that the teen has a safe and supportive home environment.

Our Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility for adolescents

Residential treatment provides intensive care for youth with serious psychiatric, emotional, and behavioral health needs. Residential programs are sometimes the next step for teens and young adults who need additional treatment following short-term inpatient psychiatric care. Residential treatment programs allow teens to continue treatment in a structured, safe, and caring environment under 24/7 supervision by our trained staff. Depending on the needs of the individual, a typical stay is usually between one to three months.

Partial hospitalization outpatient programs for teens

We are proud to offer northern Nevada’s only partial hospitalization program for adolescents. This outpatient program provides behavioral health treatment and therapy programs without requiring overnight stays. Patients in our partial hospitalization programs spend approximately six hours each weekday in group therapy sessions. A typical partial hospitalization program lasts between two to four weeks. Additionally, families participate in educational sessions to learn how to best support their teens. Partial hospitalization programs include an onsite teacher to ensure that each teen does not fall behind on their schoolwork. We also provide lunch.
